For Those Who Want The Color But Not the Bold

Well, I finished my second of many Totes Ma Tote Bags over the weekend and it just reinforced how much I love this pattern by Janelle at Emmaline Bags.  You can find it here.  This bag is for someone who likes color but doesn't like the bold.  My last Totes Ma Tote bag was long on the color and long on the bold!

This is the front of the bag.  Even though I used a red quilting cotton, I stayed calm  on the pattern of the fabric...just some lighter red and black muted circles.   It was still enough to use my black faux leather for the handles...

and the side trim...

I liked the double zip zipper on my first bag so much that I duplicated it on this bag...

And, I left all of the craziness on the inside with a fun print for the lining...

I can't wait to make this bag again.  If not this week, then next week.  It's too bad the richness of the fabric doesn't show up as well as it could have.  Red always seems to be a hard color to photograph.  Anyone else find that??

  2. I'm not a bright coloured person as you probably know but this one is gorgeous. Bright but not in your face and the inside is just a beautiful as the outside. I've already picked out some fabrics to make a patchwork one and I think I'm going to go crazy and make it bright. Fantastic pattern and you've done a great job as usual.

  3. Thanks, Maria. Whereas I like bright and bold handbags, I have to keep reminding myself to tame down my selections sometimes. Not all of my customers think like me so I try to do a variety.

  4. So....if you could do a little tutorial for how to do the double zip then that would be really helpful, I could link to it when my next pattern comes out!!

    1. Samantha,

I purchase a zipper with the double zipper on it. There is nothing special that I do but center it on a zipper gusset and put a zipper tab on both ends. I really wanted to test for your nappy bag...I have had many requests for one from my customers. I have not used one recently and I know you were looking for someone with little ones. Can't wait to see it.

  5. So gorgeous! I love red and this bag very beautiful. The black faux leather details add so much to the fabric. The faux leather gives the bag a sophisticated look, I find. Very good choice of color and material. I'd love to have this bag.
