Sharing Some Sewing Christmas Gifts

I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends.  We have three Christmas celebrations at our house and we have just completed the second one.  The third one will be Monday evening.

Here are some of the sewing items I found among my gifts.

I got some small Clover clips.  I have had the extra large green ones for awhile and while I love them they are too large for some projects.  I can't wait to use them.

I got a bobbin box to prevent thready chaos in my sewing drawer.

I finally own a magnetic seam guide.  I have strips of tape marking some seam lines on my sewing machines.  They are really hard to see now.  Maybe my topstitching will even be straighter.  (Look out, Maria!)

There was a gift card to JoAnn's.  I'm sure that will be gone fast!  How fun!

I, also, got a pair of Gingher dressmaking scissors that are spring loaded.  So often with my rheumatoid arthritis, my hands ache from the motion of cutting out fabric.  The only motion I have to do is to close the scissors.  They pop back open on their own.  This will really help to save my hands.  I can't wait to cut out my January bag of the month pattern when it comes!

But my best sewing gift by far was to see my youngest grandchildren with their backpacks I made them.  They loved them and I think they look adorable with them on.  Do they really have to go back to South Carolina???  I will miss them so much.  Nothing is better than Christmas through the eyes of a child.  It was pure wonderment.

  1. What a lovely photo of your little sweethearts in their backpacks!

I got Wonder Clips, too. Although I already had a 10-pack, it wasn't always enough. And I have a couple of those bobbin boxes - love 'em! Do you know the trick of using plastic tubing to keep the bobbins from unwinding? It's slick! That scissors sounds awesome for you.

    Have a Merry rest-of-your-Christmas!

    3. Thanks. This will be helpful for my other set of bobbins for my older machine. At least until I get another of the bobbin cases I got.

  3. LOLLLLL I need one of those magnetic seam guides then I won't have to put such a strain on my eyes when topstitching. Your topstitching is already good so with this little gadget we'll have to bow our heads in shame. You grandchildren look adorable with their backpacks. They're lucky to have a gran that's so talented.
Christmas for us was quiet as our daughter left on Christmas Eve. I spent Christmas Day preparing for Valentines Day LOLLL I've got a load of stuffed hearts to make.
Have a nice third day of Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

    1. Thanks, Maria. Christmas is the only holiday that we all get together and it depends on the weather. They have to drive about 9 hours to get here and they have to cross some winding mountain roads to get here. No white Christmas for us this year but it just means safer travel for them so I am fine with that.

  5. I'm glad you had a great Christmas. I agree that is great to spend Christmas with children. In our family they are growing up to fast. The majority are teens. My sister from NJ is visiting now and she has an 11 yr old and an 8 yr old. Your gifts are lovely. Those scissors sound great. I might put them on my wish list. Let us know how the magnetic seam guide works out. It van also go on my list. Keep enjoying!!

  6. Marilyn your grandchildren look adorable wearing their new backpacks. I love using the red Clover clips. I bought a pack of 10 first and then when I needed more clips I got the 50 piece pack. I use them for so many things. I have one of those metal seam guides I got years ago for an older machine. You can use them on non-computerized machines only, because the magnet can interfere with the computer, plus most computerized machines aren't metal so the magnet wouldn't be able to stay in place, LOL! Enjoy your great gifts and I know you will use that gift card for something you can use too.

    1. Thanks, Daryl. I love my larger Clover clips but the smaller ones will be more versatile. I had a really good coupon for the first ones I bought but all they had were the large green ones left. Too good of a deal to miss out. And yes, I am using the magnetic seam guide on my semi industrial Brother like you have. It fits nicely there.

  7. Get the giant box of wonderclips - best notion of 2014!
I bought mine on ebay. Joann's regular price (to use the 40% coupon) was much higher.
I have sent out two 'cards' full to sewing friends. 100 might be enough. So handy.

Your grandkids' backpacks look to be the perfect size and they are bound to have fun with them.
    Great sewing.

I have one more sewing gift to make - meeting up on New Year's Day.
I think I did very well making my gift giving handmade.
