The New Year has arrived and I have been very busy. I am currently testing a bag from a designer that is new to me and I am excited to show it to you when it is released. It is not like anything I have made before so it has been fun. I even had to do one sewing technique that I have not done since high school...and trust me, that was a long time ago.
I, also, have been preparing for a sew along on Chris W Design Patterns Facebook page that starts on Monday, January 12. I will tell you more about that tomorrow.
Today, I want to share my version of the January Bag of the Month. I hope you are participating this year. Last year was so much fun. And guess what? I won a 2nd prize with my version of The Poolside Tote.
I digress...back to this fun bag, The Companion Carpet Bag by Samantha at Sewing Patterns by Mrs. H. This bag was the first time I have used a metal frame, so that was a fun learning. This bag calls for an internal frame. (An external frame bag is still on my to do list...please listen independent designers!)
I used a prequilted fabric remnant that I had in my stash that was waiting for the perfect bag for it. This was the one because this bag just calls for a heavier weight fabric and handles it with ease. I made a navy faux suede piping for the front pocket and matching straps and strap tabs.
I made the smaller sized bag (there is a small size and a large one). But, it is huge on the inside. You can see how wide it is by looking at it from the side.
Look at it with the frame fully extended! Huge! It will fit anything I would be carrying.
The bottom of the bag has feet to keep it up off the floor.
Thanks, Samantha, for a fun and different bag and a great start to the Bag of the Month Club 2015. You can still get in on the club. Find out more info here. You can find other patterns from Sewing Patterns by Mrs H here. I have personally made several Convertible Bags and one Nappy Bag. Her patterns are great. OK, I'm ready for the February bag.....except I have tons to do before it gets here.
How pretty that is! Looking forward to seeing that test bag... you have my curiosity up, for sure! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I look forward to showing off the test bag...but first I have to finish it and then it needs to be released.
DeleteMarilyn I love blue and yellow together so that is a great print and your yellow lining is so cheerful. I made my bag as far as I can go. I need to make handles and I am debating about ordering the frame because I am not sure if I want both sizes or a few frames for the smaller size, so i am waiting to decide what to do and then I will wait even longer to receive them when I do order them, lol! I did make the smaller one and I love how it's looking. I too have a yellow print lining fro my bag. It might be a while before it's finished. I have made several bags with an external sew-on frame. In fact I am making coin purses now. The sewing on the frame takes longer than making the little purse.
ReplyDeleteI debated about the frames, too, Daryl. I ended up getting 2 small. I still wonder if I should have gotten 1 of each.
DeleteEmmaline bags now carries the frames, I believe her shipping is 5 - 8 business days to the US!
DeleteSo cute! The quilted fabric was a great selection. I just ordered my frame. I'm a bit anxious on the rest of the decisions I still have to make like handles, closure and fabric. Let the fun begin with the Bag Club!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Norma. I stressed more about fabric selection with this bag than any other I've made. I really shouldn't have. I've not seen one of these bags so far that I haven't liked no matter what the fabric.
DeleteLove your fabric choice, it's just perfect and the handles look great. I made the small one too and thought the size was perfect for a handbag. Maybe the larger one would make a nice overnight bag. I'm looking forward to seeing your test bag. I've had the flu and been in bed for the last three days so haven't started mine yet. I'm feeling a bit better today but still not well enough to sew. Maybe tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maria. I hope you feel better soon. I put my test bag aside to finish my bag of the month. I will start back with it tonight or tomorrow afternoon after a dr's appt.
DeleteLOVE your version, Marilyn! So cheerful! :) The colours are AWESOME! I actually really love Yellow....I should use it more often....
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine. I rarely use blue and I don't know why. I guess we just are attracted to some colors more than others.
