Bingo Bags and a Missing Customer

I received an email from a woman who had googled "bingo bag" and a picture of a Zip and Go Bag that I made in bingo fabric came up.  She followed that picture to my blog and looked through some of the bags I had made.  She asked if I could make a Bye Bye Love Bag out of that same bingo fabric.  I knew I had enough of the fabric left to make one so I agreed.  She then decided she wanted two of them...uh oh could be a problem but I thought I had seen this fabric  at JoAnn's a few weeks ago.  I started out on my mission to find at least another yard of this fabric.  First JoAnn's, no bingo fabric.  No problem because this is a small store and they don't carry as many fabrics as most of the other stores.  Second store (a very large store), no bingo fabric.  They could help me find it if I had the SKU, but I didn't have that.  They called a third store, no bingo fabric.  It seems like there is a pattern developing.  I know I just saw it a couple of weeks ago.  One last quest.  I traveled 35 miles to another store and did not see it in their novelty fabrics.  Before I left, I looked at the red tagged clearance fabric and what do I see??.  Three yards of bingo fabric!!!!  Yayyyy!!!  So here is the result.

The insides are different.

The backs look the same.

Now that they are done, I am having a hard time reaching the customer by email.  Maxine, if you are reading this...please contact me so I can get your bags to you.

  1. Marilyn those are so cute in the Bingo fabric. Lucky to have found the fabric at all, but you scored with it on sale! Hope you got a deposit from Maxine in case you get :stuck" with these bags. I think they are so darling that you should be able to sell them at one of your shows if she doesn't claim them. My mom used to play a lot of Bingo, but doesn't much anymore.

    1. Thanks, Daryl. I don't require a deposit but that policy is changing. I had never had a problem until just recently. I have two orders I have been unable to deliver. I will inform them that they have 30 days and then they will go to my craft show inventory.

  2. They are very whimsy and joyful. Yes you should change your policy. Is not fair you went through so much to get the fabric plus the expenses and time making it. Hopefully she finds you soon. If not just sell them of course. Live and learn!!

  3. They look gorgeous. That fabric is so fun. You went to so much trouble and expense to get hold of the fabric, I hope you get your money back to cover costs. I think all of us that sell our things should start being a bit more business like. I never get a deposit and most people leave it to me to decide on fabrics and colours for runners so I always say if they don't like it they don't have to buy it. Luckily that hasn't happened yet but maybe I shouldn't offer that option, after all they're leaving it up to me and if they're really fussy they should choose themselves. Best of luck. I hope she gets in touch.

    1. Thanks, Maria. I have always felt that if someone orders something and then wouldn't pick it up I could just sell it anyway. But when something is this specific, that is harder. It has never happened to me before. But I think you are right, from now on I will collect at least a 50% deposit.

  5. You don't need a policy until you need it. I used to do custom picture framing. I required a 50% payment up front (for materials) with the remainder at delivery.
In the event, they didn't like the item - they chose the materials - no refund - only a store credit.
Craft your own and cut and paste it to every email transaction.
I should do that with my custom sewing..... ahem. they seem so friendly at the beginning.......

Bingo paraphenalia will sell easily - sometimes VFW's have craft shows and they will certainly sell there.

    1. Thanks, Kathy. It is certainly disappointing. I have never had this happen. I can't understand when someone picks the bag and the fabric and orders 2 how you don't at least respond to an email.
