First Snow of the Season

Well, look what happened while I was sleeping.  Our first official snow of the season.

It is still so overcast this morning that the pictures look like they were taken in black and white...but no, this is full color.

The fir tree outside our sunroom window is so heavy with the snow that the branches are drooping.

It is actually the same with all of the fir trees.  That is some heavy snow.

I love how the trees are frosted with the snow.

The Canada geese have been enjoying the sun the last few days.  Now you can see how they are navigating in the water to keep it from freezing.  They are usually farther south by now.  They should have left yesterday!!

The first snow is always so special.  Don't expect me to still feel the same way at the end of February....

  1. Beautiful photos Marilyn. Snow always looks so peaceful and picturesque when it first falls. But once it gets trampled on and cabin fever sets in it's not so nice anymore. We got a bit of rain yesterday morning. Other parts of the state got snow, but nothing here yet. Looks like a good day to curl up to the sewing machine and sew all day.

    1. My thoughts exactly, Daryl. I always like how it looks when I don't have to be anywhere.

  2. You have a better attitude than I do about that first snow. We got about 6" on Saturday and it's been below zero already. Ugh. Cabin fever setting in much too soon. Thank goodness for sewing machines! ;)

I did like your pic of the goose tracks on the water. :)

  3. So gorgeous! Thanks for sharing....not likely to happen here in Texas. They thought we might get a few snowflakes in the night. I got up and checked about 2 a.m. Didn't see even one flake.

    1. I love the change of seasons we get here in Ohio. I even love the snow for awhile. But, I am always ready for the next one to come.

  4. Your photos look beautiful. The snow makes everything look so peaceful. Will you have snow until Feb now or will it clear in a short while? We have rain today but it's still quite mild. I've turned off the heating and I'm walking round the house in a strapy top. Last year we had so much snow we had to dig our way out which was very unusual in fact it rarely snows here. That was a very bad one off. No electric, gas or water. I had to boil snow to make tea and cook. I hope it's not like that again this year. Great weather for sewing though.

    1. The ground will not usually stay covered all winter. We will have snow melt with the sun and warmer temperatures. But, we will have plenty of snow storms, too. It can snow into March and sometimes in early April.
